2011 College of Law Commencement
Syracuse University College of Law celebrated the graduation of 194 juris doctor degree candidates on Friday, May 13 in the Carrier Dome. Congratulations to all our graduates!
Delaware Attorney General Joseph R. "Beau" Biden III, a 1994 graduate of the College of Law, returned to the SU campus and served as the Commencement speaker. Jessica Caterina, a member of the class of 2011, sang the national anthem for the second consecutive year. Class president, Noah Schechtman, spoke on behalf of the class.
The Class of 2011 awarded College of Law Professor Nina A. Kohn the Res Ipsa Loquitur Award at the ceremony. An expansive collage of photos of the College of Law Graduation ceremony—taken by our University Photographer—are available online and can be downloaded at no cost.

Neporent Named to SU Board of Trustees
At Syracuse University's Board of Trustees annual meeting held May 14, Chairman-elect Richard L. Thompson G'67 officially assumed the role of chairman of the University's Board of Trustees. Additionally, eight individuals were elected as trustees including Mark A. Neporent L'82, of New York City, who is chief operating officer, general counsel and senior managing director for Cerberus Capital Management, since 1998.

Jessica Caterina L'11 Wins Writing Award
Jessica Caterina, a third-year Syracuse University College of Law student, was selected to receive the 2011 Burton Award for Distinguished Legal Writing. Her work – "Glorious Bastards: The Legal and Civil Birthright of Adoptees to Access Their Medical Records in Search of Genetic Identity" was published in Volume 61, Book 1 of the Syracuse Law Review—one of only 15 selected in the nation. She will attend a June celebration at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. to recognize her work. This is the second consecutive year an SU law student has won this prestigious award.

Dean Arterian and the College of Law will host alumni receptions in Northern NJ on June 22 and Philadelphia, PA on June 23.

Law Reunion Weekend is September 23-24, 2011: Make Your Reservations Now!
College of Law Reunion weekend will take place September 23-24 and welcomes all law alumni back to campus, with special emphasis on classes ending in "1" or "6"! Reunion events include the Annual Law Dinner, the College of Law alumni tailgate and the Syracuse vs. Toledo football game. Southern California area alumni joined Dean Hannah R. Arterian and College of Law staff for luncheons in Los Angeles, CA on May 18 and Costa Mesa, CA on May 19. Dean Arterian provided an update on academic initiatives, student life, new law student housing and the new law building, Dineen Hall.
