Trial Team Wins National Civil Trial Competition!

Syracuse University College of Law is the champion of the 11th Annual National Civil Trial Competition (NCTC), a three-day trial competition that involved teams from 16 different law schools. The winning members of the Syracuse team included Christopher DeFrancesco L'13, Jason Feldman L'13, Mary Louise Wright L'14, Ryan Campbell L'14 and alternate Illianov Lopez L'13. The team won the two best oralist awards, with team member Jason Feldman also earning "Best Advocate/Final Rounds" award and the "Best Advocate/Preliminary Rounds".

Appellate Team

Appellate Team Heads to Nationals

The College of Law's National Appellate Team competed November 16-18 in Boston, beating Boston College and the University of Maine, to advance to the semi-final and final rounds of competition. The team advances to the National Finals in New York City in February 2013. All three team members were awarded medals by the American College of Trial Lawyers and the American Bar Association for excellence in advocacy.

SPIN Auction

20th Annual SPIN Auction A Success!

Syracuse Public Interest Network (SPIN, formerly Grant Opportunity (GO) Program) hosted the 20th Annual Auction November 9 at the Palace Theater in Syracuse. SPIN raised over $30,000 for Syracuse Law student fellowships through ticket sales, and silent and live auctions, with proceeds funding summer public interest opportunities locally, regionally and nationally.

David Cay Johnston

David Cay Johnston, distinguished visiting lecturer in the College of Law, wrote the Newsweek cover story about how to avoid a natural disaster like Hurricane Sandy. He also authored a New York Times op-ed  about competition in the telecom industry. He was a guest on NPR's On the Media to discuss his book, The Fine Print: How Big Companies Use Plain English to Rob You Blind.

The Washington Post reviewed The Fine Print: How Big Companies Use Plain English to Rob You Blind (Portfolio, 2012). Also, a Journal Inquirer (Manchester, Conn.) story on the sale of public tax credits quotes Johnston. He spoke with the Investigative Post at the Buffalo studios of WGRZ on the topics of journalism and corporate influence over various levels of government.
